HISTORY OF ASSOCIATION

Safety Appliances Mfg. Association came into being in the year 1969 mainly to look after the interests of safety appliances manufacturers. It was found by Late Joseph Leslie Vas, Late Francis Leslie Vas, Late M. d. Shroff, Late Fida Hussain Makati, Late Gulabchand P. Jauhari and others......

We had then about 35 to 40 Small Scale Industries spread all over the country that were engaged in the production of safety appliances. It was then a disorganized and incomplete effort to meet industry’s want of correct safety appliances.

Majority of these industries were situated in Mumbai in the Western Zone and at Kolkatta in the Eastern Zone. With the coming up of new large industries in Thane Belapur Belt – Steel Plants, Fertilizers, Chemicals, Dyestuff and Allied Industries a new demand came in for safety appliances.

Safety appliances industries had to gain correct intimate knowledge of hazardous inplant conditions and produce equipments that surely protect and industrial worker under unsafe working condition. The need of an association which was till then felt to be a necessity took birth and we now have a well based association who is putting considerable effort to look into the industries safety problems.

Right from the inception association had loyal and selfless workers and who have placed considerable effort to ensure consistent growth of safety industry.

Association is now putting new effort to implement ISI standard, providing needed raw materials and technical expertise.

In its initial period of growth association receive considerable information and assistance from national safety council, central labour institute and the council of industrial safety.

Dr. P. V. Thakkar, Brigadier Mr. G. R. Chainani and Mr. J. R. Ovalekar gave required direction so that safety appliances manufacturing industry can provide equipment for safe working.

In a way safety is a noble profession to the extent that it thrives to reduce agony and pain to a worker due to assurance of an avoidable accident. We therefore rightly feel proud that we are engaged in activity, which reduces agony due to accident and a number of disabled workers.
